A Year of Listening, Learning, and Protecting Our Ocean - Living Ocean – Key Achievements in 2025
In 2025, Living Ocean spent the year on the water and beneath the surface — tracking humpback whale migrations, listening to the ocean through underwater acoustics, and uncovering how climate change is reshaping marine life along the NSW coastline. From world-first seabird research to community events that connected people deeply to Ocean Country, this year was defined by action, collaboration, and a shared commitment to protecting our ocean.
An unforgettable trip to Eden
Join the Living Ocean team as we spent a week in Eden, NSW, studying humpback whales during their southern migration. Using the BeHayve app, we recorded detailed behaviours — from breaches and tail slaps to migration paths — contributing to a growing dataset on east coast humpbacks. Supported by volunteers and local operators, this citizen-science expedition highlights the power of community in protecting our oceans.
