What We Do

Living Ocean is a charity that promotes the awareness of human impact on the ocean, through research, education, creative activity in the community, and support of others who sustain ocean health and integrity.

And always celebrating and honouring the natural environment and the lifestyle that the ocean offers us.

Our whale research program builds on research that has been conducted off our coastline by our experts over many years and our Centre for Marine Studies enables students and others to become directly involved.

Through partnerships with individuals and organizations, we conceive, create and coordinate campaigns that educate all layers of our community – from our ‘No Plastic Please’ campaign, which is delivered in partnership with local schools, to film nights and lectures, aimed at the wider community.

Additionally, we raise funds for ocean-oriented conservation groups such as Sea Shepherd.

Founded in 2010 in Whale Beach on the east coast of Australia, we are a growing community, connected by our love of the ocean and waterways that surround us.”

Fundraising Events

We have raised a significant amount of money for Organizations that share our values, such as Sea Shepherd.  This has been achieved at annual gala events and auctions that are now a highlight on the local calendar.  Past events have included performances including:  Lime Cordiale, Paul Christie, Angry Anderson, Iva Davies, Diesel, Mondo Rock, Randall Waller, David Koch, Paul Watson and Bunna Lawrie.

Members are often inspired and supported to arrange their own fundraising events that have included parties, competitions and art shows.

Live & silent auction

On behalf of Living Ocean we would like to thank you from the depths of our hearts for your support of the inaugural Living Ocean event.
It was a fantastic success in every way and the positive feedback has surpassed anything we could have imagined.
Most importantly, we are thrilled to report that after expenses we raised $25,000 to go towards the overhaul of the engine on the ‘Bob Barker’ or, put in other terms, enough money to ensure the rescue of 30 whales!
Captain Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd will be at Moby’s Whale Beach, at 7.30pm, Wednesday,17th November to personally thank everyone involved and we do hope you can join us.
You are amazing….and we simply couldn’t have done it without you!

Sincere thanks from,
